Gaelic League Cultural Consortium

The Gaelic League Cultural Consortium, comprised of local Irish organizations, is the programming arm of the Gaelic League of Detroit. Together, GLCC members provide more Irish arts and cultural events to the Gaelic League and Irish American Club members at its beloved, historic, Corktown clubhouse.

The Irish Cultural Forum

The Irish Cultural Forum goal is to promote Irish and Irish-American Culture by concentrating on presenting, to Detroit, high-quality programs dealing with all aspects of Irish and Irish-American culture and history. The Irish Genealogical Society of Michigan is a non-denominational organization focusing on genealogical research in all thirty-two counties of the Emerald Isle. The society is open to everyone! IGSM’s purpose is to preserve and perpetuate the records and cultural heritage of our Irish ancestors. Meetings are usually held the third Saturday between September and May

Jim Dewan Memorial Scholarship Program

This yearly scholarship, reserved for young women and men of Irish ancestry launched in 2021. Winners will be announced annually at the Motor City Irish Fest each June.

Set Dancing

Anne McCallum has been teaching set dancing in the Detroit/Windsor area since 1992, including Monday nights at the Gaelic League at 7:00 pm. Sets are danced to reels, jigs, polkas, slides, and hornpipes.

The matriarch of the Heinzman family, Kitty teaches the history of Ireland through ‘ceili’ dances on Friday evenings. Irish ceili dancing is the traditional group dancing native to Ireland

Language Circle

The Irish Language Circle meets on Wednesday evenings.  We meet the first Wednesday at the Gaelic League of Detroit from 7:30 – 9:00 pm. Otherwise, we use Zoom to connect with each other.  A variety of tools are used to explore the beauty of the Irish Language. Books, CDs, songs, and the internet facilitate active learning and pronunciation. All members are welcome to join.

Detroit Irish Music Association’s monthly sessions at the Gaelic League are on the first Wednesday of the month, year-round. Musicians start at 6:30pm, then end the evening with a full session. Check Gaelic League Website for Sunday sessions from 3pm-5pm.  Both musicians and listeners are welcome.
