From the President…
Yes it’s true – time flies!
As 2009 rolls down, there is plenty of bustle
at the club. Hope that you have a chance to stop by & join in some of the
events or classes that your club has to offer. Your involvement is the key to
our success!! Don't forget that the
Gaelic League meetings are held on the fourth Monday every month and it is
imperative for all dues paying Gaelic League members to attend and help make
the decisions that keep the Club up and running. There have been months when membership
attendance was lacking and decisions had to be deferred. Keep in mind that
your attendance and opinions do count.
Interested in becoming more involved? The UIS (United
Irish Society) is responsible for putting on the annual St. Patrick's Day
Parade, and is made up of members from the communities Irish organizations.
The UIS delegates select the Grand Marshal and choose the Parade Theme. The
Gaelic League and the Irish American Club are entitled to ten delegates and
four alternates. If you would like to
be part of the Parade planning and fund raising, please call and leave a
message (313)964-7474. Meetings are
held the 3rd Thursday of the month at 8:00pm and alternate between the AOH on
Grand River at Telegraph and the Gaelic
League.
As we move into the Holiday
season there will be plenty of things going on. The Prodigals will be here on Saturday,
November 14th. Bring your
family and friends and enjoy an evening of hand clapping, window shaking
Celtic Rock. It is sure to be a crowd pleasing event.
The following weekend is the annual Tin Can Raffle to
benefit the Irish Radio Program.
Again this year we will have a Pre-Thanksgiving party on
Wednesday, November 25, featuring the Codgers. The party starts at 8:00pm so
you can kick off the holiday weekend early.
On Saturday, November 28 (Thanksgiving weekend) bring your
decorating skills down and help decorate the bar, lounge & hall for
Christmas.
On Sunday, December 6, Santa & his friends will stop
by. So why not make a family day of it. Crafts, games, clowns, and lunch
included. Just call (313) 964-7474 and make a reservation for any child 10
& under.
The night of a hundred Santa’s’ is sure to be a holiday
stress reliever so make plans to Santa Watch on Saturday, December 19.
Of course the plans are in the making for the New Years
Eve party. Check the web site at www.gaelicleagueofdetroit.org for details.
May your holidays’ be bright & your New Year be happy!
